The first semester of the first year-long design studio centred on the application of the principals of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) to an existing station area in Montreal’s metro network. This project outlines our team’s proposals which utilized TOD principals while avoiding the destructive tendencies prominent in many TOD projects such as the destruction of social housing in the Hope IV program throughout the United States. The project sought to improve the provision of services for existing residents, while also increasing development densities around the station. In a group of five, my responsibilities largely laid in the historical research and spatial design components of the project. Others centred on statistical research and the policy side of the project.
